The never ending fight against evil

Once again another huge weekend of sport has concluded with results not going well for those on the side of goodness and decency in the never ending fight against evil.

In the biggest game of the weekend the most prestigious trophy in world sport slipped through the grasp of Mighty Mighty Auckland when Daniel Bloody Bowden kicked away possession whilst one point down and with twenty seconds left on the clock.  This moment surely rivals Matt Dunning’s last minute successful droppy ensuring New South Wales didn’t make the Super 12 playoffs in 2003.  This play by Bowden, along with Piri Wepu’s touchfinder in the second test against France will ensure the judges of the Peter de Villiers sponsored Dumbest Moment in Rugby Trophy will have many sleepless nights before deciding on a winner.

Evil 1 – Goodness and decency 0

Dirty Filthy Cheating Canterbury not surprisingly allowed Canterbury B a bonus point in their “clash” in the Peoples Republic of Canterbury.  No surprises here as Canterbury B need all the bonus points they can get to avoid demotion at the end of the season but D.F.C. Canterbury ensured they won by just enough.  Both sides in the match were evil so…

Evil 2 – Goodness and decency 0

The Mighty Mighty All Blacks were next up and not only proved that Lord Sir Supreme Leader Graham Henry is in another Universe to Robbie Deans but also helped take part in what must be one of the worst weekend for ‘Straaalyn sport in recent memory.  Daniel Carter’s much anticipated return to the test arena went almost perfectly and that he still managed to win the game for the M.M.A.B’s with Stephen Donald on the field is a testament to his character.  Unfortunately he is still a D.F.C. Cantab and my daily internal squabbling with myself “I love you, I love you not…” has resulted in a large psychiatrist’s bill and no real resolution to speak of so far.

Evil 2 – Goodness and decency 1

The Dirty Filthy Cheating ‘Straaalyns must have been peeesed off with their sporting performances over the weekend as they lost not only the Bledisloe Cup but also the Ashes.  With their inspirational alcoholic Freddy Flintoff back in the squad the Poms pulled off a somewhat unlikely win against the Baggy Greens in the fifth and deciding test at The Oval.  Flintoff has now retired from test cricket and yours truly is currently investigating the allegations that he is pursuing a career as Jesse Ryder’s Life Coach.

Evil 2 – Goodness and decency 2

And so to the decider - where the Mighty Mighty Black Caps took on the Sri Lankans.  The less said about the first test the better.  Not only did we get our backsides handed to us on a plate but it was handed to us by a bunch of blokes with names that are both far too long and contain far too many vowels for me to even attempt to report on.  I mean – how do you say Angelo Mathews?  None of the Black Caps managed to score a century in either innings and none were really even all that close – Tim McIntosh our highest run scorer – out for the special number in his first innings.

Final Score Evil 3 – Goodness and decency 2 – But the battle continues…
