Mighty Mighty Auckland’s Ranfurly Shield Challenge On Track
Another good news / bad news weekend of sports has come and gone with the highlight clearly being Mighty Mighty Auckland’s 15 point demolition job on ex-top of the table side Bay of Plenty.
Yours truly braved a wet and dismal Garden of Eden to view the destruction of the Bay along with up to 100 other rugby fans - some of them even supporting M.M.A. The home sides player of the day was unsurprisingly Taniela Moa who is continuing to push for a spot in the M.M.A.Bs and is now surely only a year or two away from being amongst the greatest All Black halfbacks of all time. Joe Rock..Rocco..Rochath – Big Joe R managed to bag himself a couple of well worked tries that may just be enough to get him another test in the Black Jersey once again. The result brings M.M.A into the top half of the table and within striking distance of yet another championship victory.
On the other side of the ledger Dirty Filthy Cheating Canterbury just managed to scrape by Wellington to win 36-14 in a tightly contested match at the Cake Tin. Aided by the NZRFU once again allowing their All Blacks to play in an important Canterbury game, the red and blacks lifted the Log ‘o Wood. The only good news from this result is that the result ensures that M.M.A will hold the most important trophy in world sport at seasons end. Canterbury will lose to Otago in week 7, Waikato will beat Otago in week 11 and Mighty Mighty Auckland will destroy the Mooloos in week 13 to ensure the shield is home for the off season – you just can’t mess with destiny.
In other headlines…
Over the Tasman, Robbie Deans continued to prove that the N.Z.R.F.U’s decision not to make him the M.M.A.Bs coach was a good one as the ‘Bukkks made the Dirty Filthy Cheating ‘Straaalyns look less than average in Perth.
The Mighty Mighty Black Caps put up a stronger performance in the second test in Sri Lanka before the inevitable loss. Daniel Vettori (or Daniel Wettori as the local commentators call him) was one of the few highlights of the forth innings with a skippers knock of 140.
Jump back off the bandwagon people – The Phoenix suck again.
The Warriors still suck.

Many thanks for your comments. I have visited the Peoples Republic of Christchurch a few times and can assure you I was not met with welcoming arms - only welcoming empty bottles. Whilst I understand your comparison with battered wife syndrome I am supremely confident that - in this case - we can stop the cycle. Clearly the Christchurch smog has gone to your head - you're welcome up here any time. I'll even give you a demonstration of colour T.V.

Your continued support of the Auckland Rugby team is akin to battered wife syndrome. An affliction you share with the remaining handful of Wellington supporters. Every time your team lets you down you believe it wont happen again. But it will.again and again. The pain can stop , there is a cure. Shift to Christchurch where you will be welcomed for seeing the light. Halleluja
